Torsten Thiele researches blue finance and blue natural capital for better ocean governance solutions.
He consults widely with public, private and civil society organisations, including IUCN, the European Commission, the World Bank and others.
He speaks at key conferences, such as the Economist World Ocean Summit and recently published “Innovative Finance on the High Seas”. Torsten is a Research Associate at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam, a Visiting Fellow at the LSE Institute of Global
Affairs and member of a number of advisory boards.
Torsten gained over 20 years experience in structuring debt and equity solutions for complex infrastructure, working with banks such as JP Morgan, the EBRD, BGB and CIT.
Till 2013 Torsten was Head of Telecoms Project Finance at Investec Bank plc. Torsten holds graduate degrees in law and economics from Bonn University, an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge. In 2014 as Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard University he launched the not-for-profit Global Ocean Trust.
