Kristofer Du Rietz is adviser on international ocean governance and sustainable fisheries in the European Commission’s General Directorate for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE).
He was born in Kalmar in Sweden 1966. He is married and has two children. He is a Master of Law (Lund) and Business Administration (Durham) and is a former diplomat from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and officer in the Swedish Army reserve.
He has a long experience in the European Institutions where has mainly dealt with international trade, development issues, and inter-institutional affairs. Before joining DG MARE he coordinated the EU side in the free trade negotiations between the EU and Canada.
Currently he is also Chairperson for the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement and for the Extended Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna.
